this stone mesures around 11 m wide times 2. 3 m high, carved on solid stone.
Among the multiple theories existing regarding its functions the most popular one will be that it fulfilled a religious fonction, since it was places about a central node a complexe underground watering network made by the incas as well, like a reproduction of the whole Empire : mythical creatures, buildings, montains, topography, human activities: all this miniatures scenes are represented. So, it is possible that the archeologist F.Kauffnan Doig is right when he proposes that this stone would be a simbolic representation of the universe in contact with the water worship. in the opinion of other archeologists, the stone could have been a sort a small scale model designated to the architectural and urban planning of the Empire, since many human made constructions, channels, stairs, ponds are represented… but then, why all the figures on? the feline divinities, the serpents, fish, and all the social activities? I guess there will be other studies further in the future…. Maybe, they are there to explain people the functions of each building? that is an amusing thought!
